Description

Sign up is NOW OPEN for WISE WOMEN; a game for 17 female characters set on a remote Scottish island in 1953. Singing! Divination! Making tea to smooth over awkward moments in tense relationships!

Sign-ups will be open until April 6th at 9pm.

Wise Women is a live action roleplaying game in which we collaborate to tell the stories of gifted women in a small island community in the 1950s. These women are almost all related to one another in some way- we explore both happy and dysfunctional family relationships in this game.

GROUP SINGING is a central part of this game. No song learning prior to the event is required. No experience of singing or a 'good voice' is necessary. We have an excellent song leader who will run workshops prior to the start of the game to ensure everyone is comfortable. Our intention in using song as a central theme in this game is to feel the bonds formed during this collaborative experience, rather than to have a perfect performance. We aim to portray realistic characters rather than professional singers!

DIVINATION is a central part of this game. Our Wise Women are able to predict the fortunes of the men at sea, and in some small ways influence them. There is a lot of opportunity here for solo roleplaying as well as intense interpersonal drama.

FEMALE CHARACTERS are used in this game. We are open to participants of any gender, we only ask that you are comfortable playing a female character with respect. There are queer stories to be told in this game, and there may be an option to develop one of the characters as transgender. However we will take great care when developing a role in this way, with sensitive casting.

We plan to have 2 runs of this game.

RUN 1: This run of the game prioritises setting aesthetics and is being held in a remote Blackhouse village at Gearannan on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Dramatic ocean views and windswept vistas guaranteed! The exterior paths are gravel and not level, and cars cannot be parked closer than 150m. The stone cottages have level surfaces inside but there are steps down into them. Travel to this location will require some forward planning and involves either flying to Stornoway from a UK airport or taking the ferry from Ullapool. 30/10/25 to 04/11/25

RUN 2: This run of the game prioritises physical and financial accessibility and is being held at Seahouses, Northumberland UK. This venue is wheelchair accessible and located close to major transport hubs. The hostel is a lovely homely cottage and still fits our game aesthetics nicely. Outside areas are flat grass.
